Ethics is one of the most important aspects of the business. It is what keeps a business sustainable and credible. Most individuals tend to overlook this aspect of the business. Often they associate business activities and situations with negotiations where they just need to get the work done without paying much heed to ethics. But how to be ethical as a QNET direct seller is the first thing you should know!
Most often they find themselves in situations where they stand to gain something. However, it comes at the expense of their ethics. They come across a situation where they can close someone by providing false information or they can sell a product by providing improper information. All these practices are unethical and by all means resentful.
So, in this article, I will list down a few ways how you can be ethical in your business!
How to be ethical in your direct selling business?
Direct selling is a difficult endeavour as it requires individuals to put in their share of hard work. Often, individuals may find shortcuts which would involve foregoing their values. Now, I would urge every individual to remain sane and not break away from their values for short-term gains. Here are a few things that I practice in my business and individuals can make a note of these things and apply them in their direct selling businesses!
1) Being honest
“Honest is the best policy” – Indeed, it is one of the best things an individual can do to remain honest and sincere in business. Often certain individuals tend to lie or hide details when they have an opportunity to close a prospect. This holds true during negotiations when people make great promises. However, in the end, it does not turn out to be true. In most cases, it causes a great loss to the other person. Now, this only leads to resentment and the inevitable backlash.
I have personally come across people who would lie in order to make money in the short term. However, their lies caught up to them and they had to pay a price for their unscrupulous conduct. Now, this usually tends to ruin an individual’s reputation and more often than not people would not like to get into business with such a person.
So, always be honest and it will surely benefit you in the long run.
2) Providing accurate information
We are in an age of information. Everything is accessible in a few clicks. However, an overload of information also leads to uncertainty amongst people. Now, a few people take advantage of this uncertainty and use it to their advantage. They provide inaccurate information to aggrandise the product or services. Moreover, they make false claims about the business opportunity.
This is a misrepresentation of the business. It causes harm to the receiver who consumes this information and may make decisions based on these false claims. In addition, it also causes great harm to the company’s reputation. Often these individuals paint a different picture of the company which turns out to be untrue.
For instance, QNET does not promise any monetary returns to any of its direct sellers. It all depends on the individual’s ability to grow their business. However, a few unscrupulous people might provide a false representation.
QNET condemns such practices and terminates their IR IDs. So, individuals must be careful about how they present the opportunity and how they sell the products.
Sometimes, individuals might make a genuine mistake by providing wrong information about the company and its products. So, what must an individual do in such cases?
3) Accept responsibility
This is perhaps one of the hardest tasks for an individual. Accepting responsibility for a mistake. Providing false information might lead to grouses in the future. So, to prevent such a circumstance it is best to accept one’s mistake and take measures to help rectify the mistake.
There might also come a situation when a potential prospect might ask a question and one might not have the answer to that question. In such cases, the best thing to do is to ask for time to get back with the correct information. Or deflect the question to a credible source such as the QNET website.
Or just accept that you do not have the information. It is far better than providing false information to sell a product or sign a prospect. This brings us to a very crucial aspect of conducting a fair business –
4) Not pressurising anyone to buy a product or signup
Often sales are associated with unfair practices and negotiation tactics. These tactics are thought of as just another means to sell something. However, sales do not have to be just that. It can be conducted with honesty and ethical negotiations.
The first step to that is to not pressurise anyone to buy a product. Often individuals may use sales tactics to force individuals into making a buying decision. Now, if the buyer is not enthusiastically on board to purchase chances are that he/she might experience buyer’s resentment. This again leads to mistrust and a bad image of the company and the individual.
Some individuals may also force their close friends and relatives to sign up for the opportunity. If the individuals are not convinced and are only signing up because of you, then this would again lead to resentment. Ultimately, the person may renew or drop out of the opportunity.
I have personally been rejected by many of my close relatives and friends. Initially, it did feel bad to not have them working along with me. However, after some time, I understood that I had to move on and build a team and keep moving forward.
5) Following principles
Values and principles are important in any businessman’s journey. Without these, any individual might face difficulties navigating through their business. It also means that they may remain stern during certain business negotiations. These principles, in turn, help remain honest and conduct the business ethical manner.
I personally make sure that I always remain true to my business principles. It allows me to conduct the business with honesty and ensure that I am serving people to the best of my capabilities.
Now, one of the most important things that QNET values are ethics. So, always remain ethical and honest in business. QNET has a well-established ethics policy – QNET Code of Ethics
